8x10x1.5” original mixed media artwork affixed to cradled Birchwood. The beautiful piece of original artwork is encapsulated in several layers of artist-grade epoxy resin for a glass-like finish. The piece has a contemporary antique look that is accented with stunning pops of Gold leaf channeling the Japanese tradition of Kintsugi: the art of repairing broken pottery by mending the areas of breakage with Gold.

Meaning behind the piece:

This piece is an expression of the deep pain felt during an episode of severe depression. Having struggled with depression and suicidality since a young child, Jessica hopes to channel the often helpless emotions that accompany the symptoms of dark mood and thought. While the piece is an expression of the darker side of healing it hopes to imbue a feeling of hope and thriving despite the throws of what depression can bring.

There comes a point when a human gets too tired...

Too angry.

Too sad.

Too much.

Feeling heavy and weighed down.

The thick density of dark clouds keeping you buried...

Tricking you into a dark reality.

Manipulating you into broken parts.

Each part a reminder.

Each reminder a nail in the coffin.

Not good enough.

Not smart enough.

Not kind enough.

But wait...

The fog is lifting allowing just the faintest touch of light.

Each day a little more shines through...

Less heavy.

Less dark.

The fog can be a reminder of our bare bones and our broken parts.

A reminder of where we go when the light is lost, when we are left floating...

Seemingly in thin air.

Until it consumes you and spits you back out.
